How do I allow or reset camera and microphone permission?
Click the padlock or settings icon at the left of the address bar and set Camera or Microphone to Allow, then reload. Also check your system privacy settings allow your browser.
Step by step
- Click the icon at the left of the address bar.
- Find Camera or Microphone and choose Allow (or Reset permission).
- Reload the page and press Start again.
- Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera / Microphone, and allow apps and your browser.
- Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera / Microphone, and allow your browser.

Is anything recorded or uploaded?
No. The tests run entirely in your browser; camera pictures, sound and recordings stay on your device.
It can’t use my camera
Click the camera or padlock icon at the left of the address bar, set Camera to Allow and reload the page. Close Zoom, Teams, Skype and other apps that might be using the camera – on Windows usually only one app can use it at a time. Check for a privacy shutter or a camera switch on your laptop.
