How do I make my screen look switched off while my computer keeps running?
Open the blackout screen and press Black out screen. The display shows pure black and the pointer hides. Press Esc, or double-click or double-tap, to come back.
Step by step
- Open the blackout screen.
- Leave Keep the screen awake ticked if you don’t want the device to lock.
- Choose a sleep timer if you want it to end on its own.
- Press Black out screen.
- Moving the mouse shows the pointer briefly. Press Esc or double-click to exit.
Questions and fixes
Is it the same as turning the monitor off?
Not quite: the screen is on, showing black. On OLED screens that is almost the same as off; on other screens a faint glow can remain.
