How do I check if my mouse is double-clicking by itself?

On the mouse test, click the left button slowly about twenty times. If it reports clicks closer together than the alarm setting (80 ms by default), the switch is worn and sending double clicks.

Step by step

  1. Open the mouse test and move the pointer over the dark panel.
  2. Click each button, including the wheel and side buttons; each lights up and counts.
  3. Scroll up and down to check the wheel.
  4. For double-clicks: click slowly, one at a time, about twenty times, and watch Suspect double-clicks.
  5. Move the mouse quickly in circles to estimate its polling rate.

It shows suspect double-clicks

The switch is probably worn. Compressed air around the button sometimes helps for a while; check your warranty. Slowing the double-click speed in Windows mouse settings can hide mild cases.

Inside the panel, side buttons are captured. Keep the pointer over the panel while testing.
