What people use a pink screen for

How to use it

Press Start pink screen or click the preview. The default is a bright "hot" pink. For a pastel look, open the colour picker and choose a lighter shade, or for a deeper magenta pick a darker one. Brightness can be lowered with the slider or the arrow keys once it is full screen. Press Esc or double-click to exit.

Keep the screen awake if you want the light to stay on during a long call, and use the sleep timer if it's your bedtime glow.

Getting the most from pink light

Coloured light from a screen is soft but not very strong, so distance matters. For a selfie or video call, hold or place the screen about 30 to 50 centimetres from your face and slightly to one side, so it adds colour without flattening your features. Mix it with ordinary room light for a subtle tint, or switch other lights off for a bold, saturated look. Phones work best for small, close shots; a laptop or monitor gives a broader, more even glow. If the pink looks too strong on camera, lower the brightness a little or choose a paler shade with the colour picker. Lighter pinks behave more like a warm white, while deep pinks and magentas give the neon look popular in music videos.

Questions and answers

How do I get a light pastel pink?

Click the colour picker next to the swatches and choose a paler pink before you press Start. The full screen uses exactly the shade you pick.

Does pink light look good on video calls?

Pink is a warm colour, so it softens skin tones. Keep it fairly dim and to one side; too much pink can look unnatural.

Can I use my phone as a pink light?

Yes. Open this page on your phone, press Start, and turn the phone brightness up. Tick Keep the screen awake so it doesn't lock.

How do I exit the pink screen?

Press Esc, or double-click (double-tap on a phone) anywhere on the screen.
